Pontus Pettersson "A Study of Men"
ENG:
What can the field of dance and choreography give to the rehearsal of masculine identity? How can we think choreographically about the construction of patriarchal structures — and perhaps even dance our way out of them?
A Study of Men is an assembly of eight choreographic works exploring masculinity, patriarchy, and male identity through a shared performance format. At the same time, the project investigates how artistic work can be produced within the current cultural climate, shaped by scrutiny, shifting conditions, and limited resources. The work is an attempt to practice choreography within a curatorial framework, and to carry a curatorial thread through dance itself: threading, piercing, assembling, and presenting.
Pontus Pettersson brings these concerns together by thinking both curatorially and choreographically about collectivity and responsibility. The male subject as a kaleidoscope of relations, both scrutinised and beloved.
